10,000 Steps a Day for Losing Weight

I've heard from other people that we should walk at least 10,000 steps a day to maintain fitness and to lose weight. Well most of us just only walk 3,000 steps and other can walk more than 3,000 steps, this vary because some of us are inactive or others have a job.
Wearing a pedometer can help you know how many steps have you done also calculate the calories you burn depending in the pedometer you buy. Record your progression in a notebook to see how well your doing.  Doing a 10,000 steps is not easy to do, it's like a 5 miles walk. You can do an early walk in the morning about a 30 - 60 minute and add the walk you do from your job like being a waitress or a nurse.

There are many ways to increase your daily steps. Use your imagination and come up with your own list:




  • Take a walk with your spouse, child, or friend
  • Walk the dog
  • Use the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Park farther from the store
  • Better yet, walk to the store
  • Get up to change the channel
  • Window shop
  • Plan a walking meeting
  • Walk over to visit a neighbor
  • Get outside to walk around the garden or do a little weeding
